How we price welding and fabrication

Fixed price or day rate, agreed in writing first.

01 · Overview

Built to last, not to a budget.

We use the right material and process for the job, which is why we are rarely the lowest price.

Defined jobs get a fixed price. Open-ended site work gets a day rate and an estimate of days. If the job changes, you hear about it before any extra work starts.

02 · How we charge
Fixed priceAnything we can see and measure: a repair from a photo, a part from a drawing, a product to a specification. The number, the lead time and what it includes.
Day rateSite work where the extent is not known until we start. A rate and an estimate of days, agreed before we arrive.
TravelBuilt into the quoted price, never a separate line. Give us the postcode and the quote covers it.
EmergencyCall-out is for account customers. The call-out charge and hourly rate are agreed when the account opens.
PaymentRepairs on completion by cash, card or bank transfer. Larger work is staged, with a deposit for materials. Account terms for trade customers.

04 · What drives a quote

What affects the price

01

Material

Stainless and aluminium cost more than mild steel to buy and to weld. Titanium costs more again.

02

Process

TIG is slower than MIG. Machining and printing are priced by time and volume.

03

Finish

Galvanising and powder coating are priced by weight and area.

04

Quantity

Set-up is paid once. Ten parts cost far less each than one.

05

Drawings

A drawing saves design time. A sketch is fine; any drawing work is priced as its own line.

06

Installation

Site time, access equipment and method statements, set out in the quote.

05 · Questions

Questions about pricing

Why is your price higher than some others?

We do not save money on material, process or time, so the work costs more and lasts longer. If the lowest price is the only thing that matters, we are probably not the right fit.

Do you charge for quotes?

No. A site survey for a larger project may carry a fee that comes off the job if it goes ahead; we say so before we book it.

Does the price change?

Only if the job does: hidden damage, a change to the specification, or access that was not as described. You are told before any extra work starts.

Can I get a rough idea before sending photos?

Yes. Call and describe it. We give a range on the phone and a firm number once we have seen it.
